Our Love After Forgiveness

Chapter 1

What a beautiful day for flying. This sky was clear and bright, shining with hope and love. This was meant to be, she knew it in her heart of hearts. Her mind was once clouded with doubt and fear, but Can came and recused her, renewing her faith in that kind of love that only comes along once in a lifetime. She had learned so much about herself, what was right in her life and what she had done wrong. He completed her in every way. It was time to go, live her life with him, her albatross.

The excitement of going home was great as they boarded the plane. Can had a seat across the aisle and three rows behind her. He shamelessly tried to get her to take a seat on his lap as they boarded, with everyone looking at them. She shyly, had twisted away from his grip, smiling at him demurely, she found her seat. Sitting in the aisle seat, she had the perfect angle to look back and check out that exquisite creature she was going home with, unfortunately so was every other woman on the plane. It made her smile, as she felt the heat from his eyes penetrate straight through the seat and deep inside her, going right to the spot where all the butterflies came from. She knew he wasn’t looking at them. This was going to be a long flight!

As soon as the “unfasten your seatbelt ” sign came on and you were free to move about on the plane, there he was. He stood, towering over her, sending a wave of breathlessness over her. When the flight attendant approached, asking him to return to his seat and not block the aisle, he did what Can Divit did best, he charmed. She sat and marveled at the way he persuaded the attendant, against her better judgement of course, to allow him to switch seats with the lovely lady sitting next to Sanem. The exchange was quite comical, as both the attendant and the lady sitting next to Sanem, stuttered and fumbled about, with the look from him that could convince anyone of anything. And that smile, well, needless to say, Sanem had a new seating partner. She had felt sorry for the women, seeing how visibly flustered they both were.

He settled down next to her, very proud of the exchange that had just happened. She cut her eyes his way, poured out her lips saying, ” That was horribly wrong Mr. Divit, those women will probably never be the same.” He smiled that half smile, and winked. She had to laugh, he was so cute. He gathered her hand in his, bringing his lips to her hand and kissed her skin, feeling the softness and along with the smell of her, it soothed him like nothing else. They snuggled up together for the flight home and the reunion with her parents. The surprise of her coming home might be to much for them to handle. They hadn’t even told Leila and Emre they were coming home together, so it would be a joyous day all around.

At the end of the 3 hour flight, Can and her both gathered their bags and exited the plane. The looks were endless, she could the feel the gaze of envy that came from the disappointed women that were on the plane. She proudly stood her ground, choosing not to make eye contact with any one person. The way he caressed her shoulder was validation enough for anyone to see. He was hers.  He hailed a taxi to take them to her parents first and then, he hoped they would allow him to take her to his house for some alone time. Of course Leila and Emre would be there but anything would be better than nothing.

The ride to her old neighborhood had taken almost an hour due to traffic. This time of day, her mom would be fully engrossed in cooking dinner for her beloved husband. Her mother had a special spot in her heart for Can, even with the trouble that lived within them, she thought of him as a good and decent man. And now, the fact that he brought her youngest daughter home to them, would definitely rank him high on her list. They finally arrived in front of her house, it had been months since she had last been there. Remembering the day she left there, a broken and heartsick girl, longing for a love that was gone, and determined to forgive herself. Her life had taken on a change that she respected and welcomed, and finding that love that defined it, made her stronger than ever.

He grabbed their bags from the taxi as she rang the bell. Mevkibe hurried to the door, wondering who could be ringing the bell at this time of day. She swing the door open and stared into the face of her beautiful daughter. Sanem smiled, the sight of her mother brought the tears that had been waiting for this moment. Her mom, speechless and stunned, threw her hands over her face and squealed. They embraced, crying and hugging, and with squeals of joy that brought most of the neighbors out to see what was going on. Especially Milihat, the neighbor and her moms best friend. She was overjoyed to see Sanem and Can, Sanem’s absence had been a definite void in the neighborhood. Seeing her return and with Can too, would bring happiness to the Aydin family.

Mevkibe ushered the couple in, giving Can a long and thankful hug. Knowing his actions had brought Sanem home. He carried in her bags, leaving his bag at the door. The excitement had reached pandemonium, both Mevkibe and Milihat had Sanem surrounded, whisking her away to the living room. Can was smiling, happy he had been able to bring Sanem home and reunite the family. Again Mevkibe turned to Can, placing her hands on his face, kissing both cheeks with affection. With emotion she asked, “how did you find her, son? Who told you where she was?” Can replied,  “She found me, Aunt Mevkibe, she saved me from myself. And for that I will be forever grateful. I love her more than you could know.”

The news had made it’s way to the small grocery store that was owned by the Aydin family. Her father rushed home, to see if the news was true. The bond between this father and daughter was that of a special kind, his love for her was deep and unconditional. He had a hard time excepting her decision to leave their home, but he had all the faith in the world that she was doing what she had to do. Their reunion brought many more tears of joy, the family was whole again.

Nihat turned to Can, his look of relief and appreciation was excepted by Can and returned with gratitude. He loved that family and hoped to become as one with them.

His life was the fullest it had ever been.

Chapter 2

The reunion had been a joyous event, both Mevkibe and Nihat had thanked Can for bringing Sanem home. Mevkibe had completely forgotten about their dinner, with all the excitement. She had half of the dinner ready and was hurrying to finish the rest. Insisting that Can stay for dinner, he was having a hard time refusing the invitation. He had so hoped to take Sanem home with him for the evening. He accepted the offer and settled down to stay for dinner. They ate, talked, laughed and Mevkibe shed more tears of joy as the evening wore on. It seemed his plan might not happen, but he was determined to try. As they finished the meal with their tea, Can finally had the chance to ask Nihat for permission to take Sanem to his house to surprise Leila and Emre. He assured them he would bring her home before a late hour. At first Nihat was hesitant, but with a look from his wife and a wink of her eye, he consented for her to go. Can was eager to go so he said his goodbyes and hurried Sanem out the door, promising to have her back soon.

They grabbed a taxi, ready to get to Can’s house and see Leila. The 45 minute drive was miserable, trying to keep their distance in the back of the taxi. Holding her hand was the extent of the physical contact. They arrived at his house, he took his bag and they entered the house. Emre and Leila were lounging on the sofa, watching a movie. Emre quickly turned seeing Can first, he jumped with excitement saying, ” Brother, you’re home. How did it go.”  Then Sanem stepped out from behind Can, waving her hands and yelling, “Surprise!” Both Emre and Leila screamed with shock. Leila rushed to her sister, hugging her with a force. More tears and laughing and an affectionate hug from Emre. Leila, upset that she hadn’t let them know she was coming home, scolded her. “Does mom and dad know you’re home?” She quizzed. Sanem told her they went there first, visited and had dinner, and then there for their surprise.

Leila had a million questions, but the look between the two brothers, relayed a message that, all the questions could wait until tomorrow. Can was ready for some alone time with the woman he loved. Emre quickly shooed his wife out of the room, explaining she could do all the talking she wanted tomorrow. “Let’s let them have some time, ok.” Emre said, with a wink. Can and Sanem moved out to the garden, that was their favorite place. Under the stars, it was warm and inviting. He couldn’t get enough of her, he wanted to stick to her like a magnet, never letting go. Sanem’s heart was full and happy, this had been a long time coming and she wanted it to last forever. They cuddled, talking about the future, vowing to never let anything come between them again.

His touch brought her to a place that she wanted to stay forever, she was home and loved it. His eyes moved her, releasing any doubt of their relationship. That look of love was all she would need to make her whole. The time flew by, before they knew it was late and time for him to take her home. They desperately wanted to hold on to each other, but he had made a promise and intended to keep it. That would make things easier down the road, he was sure.  He drove extra slow taking her home, devouring her smell as she lay her head on his shoulder. It had been so long since he had felt this calm, peaceful and relaxed. God, if she only knew what she did to him. This life is what he wanted and this is what he would have.

The goodbye at the door was agonizing, the need to kiss her was overwhelming, but it would be frowned upon here in her neighborhood. And he was sure every available eye was on them as they said goodnight. A quick kiss on the cheek, and a kiss of the hand would have to do, but the look that vibrated from his eyes, said so much more. She shuddered, as he breathed in her smell one last time before turning and heading for this truck. “Oh My,” she thought, I have a field of butterflies in my stomach tonight, and nowhere for them to go.

All these feelings, what were they to do with them all. Can made it home, still with her smell strong and potent inside him, it made him restless. He changed into his swim shorts and dove in the pool, hoping to swim enough laps to release the tension that had a grip on him. This was going to be along night. His workout lasted for about an hour, he was left exhausted and ready to sleep. A drink first before turning in, just to shut off his mind. But he knew his night would be filled with her in his dreams. He took his drink and went to his bedroom, grabbing his phone just to text her goodnight. The phone rang before he had a chance to text, looking he saw it was Sanem. Quickly answering with an exuberant “Hello, my love. I was just thinking about you. You must be reading my mind.”  He said.  Sanem laughed, whispering, ” You are all I’ve had on my mind since you dropped me off. I have to whisper so I won’t wake mom and dad”  “How are we going to do this” she asked. “I think I might loss my mind.”  Can laughed, “I hardly think I’m going to let you do that. How would it look to be this much in love with a crazy woman.”  Just the sound of his voice heated her soul. This man had such a pull on her heart, she feared she would lose it for sure.

He listened to her breath, sure that he could feel her breathe through the phone.

Yes, this was for sure going to put him through the biggest test of his life.

Can, maybe we should hang up.

Chapter 3

The next couple of days had Can diving back into his work, with the promise of a new client, it was all hands on deck. He insisted Sanem come to the agency everyday for inspiration, and lend her thoughts. She didn’t mind, it was a way for them to be together and that’s all she wanted. The reunion at the agency was wild. CeyCey was more than happy to see her, he had missed his friend and colleague. Deren was more passive about it but she did have a respect for Sanem’s talent. They quickly got back into the swing of things. The potential new client had ask for a meeting to lay out the product information for them. The company was fairly new and looking to expand. They wanted a new and fresh look, something to set them apart from other companies. With the product being a whole new line of cosmetics with an mineral base, it had peaked everyone’s interest.

They were making ready for the meeting with the advertising director of the company. With the company based in France, the move to expand to this area was crucial. The campaign had to be young and vibrant. Can was sure of his team and ready for the challenge. The director of advertising and the director of sales would make the deciding factor. Deren had the info on the couple, Victor Aubrey was the Director of Sales and Juliette Benoit was the Director of Advertising. Both young and energetic. Very motivated to capture the market in this area. They had a large budget and that’s what made Deren most excited about.

Sanem had been hard at work on her new book. Ahmet had called outlining the new launch dates. It was going global and the popularity had skyrocketed. They had high hopes that the second book would do just as well. He ask if she was ready to take on more publicity, maybe a speaking engagement and a book signing. She hesitated, the thought of leaving Can made her feel weak. Ahmet suggested she think about it, his advise was to ride the popularity while it was the highest, it would make it easier when the second book was released. Being in the public eye had never been a comfortable thing for her, even with the agency and her first presentation, it was frightening. But over time she had learned to endure it. She worked hard everyday writing, with Can working on new clients, she wrote about their love. Her little corner of his office had become her sanctuary. Watching him inspired her, it made her creative mind flourish. The looks that were exchanged between the two at times, without saying a word, could cause a four alarm fire. Everyone in the agency knew to knock, and wait for permission before entering Can’s office.

She had to talk to Can about the possibility of having to go out for a publicly engagement, but she knew what he would say. Their lives had become so together and right, she knew he would be against it. But she had to think of her career and engagements like that came along with publishing a book. If not this offer of a book signing, she knew it would have to be soon. Her fans wanted to meet her, see her face, to feel like they knew her. She loved meeting her fans too, they inspired her to keep going. Maybe after this new possible client they could get away together. He could come with her and support her, helping her deal with the popularity.  She always felt more at ease when he was with her. After the meeting she would talk to him about it.

The next two days were busy preparing for the meeting, finding all the information they could about the new product. He liked knowing all he could about the company before their first encounter. His life was so perfect, he didn’t know how it could be any better, love and happy was what he was about. But still he wanted to spend time alone with her, not just in the office, stealing glances and hidden touches. Maybe after this client they could get away. “Back to work or you’ll never get this done.” He demanded his mind. But the sight of her sitting in her little spot in his office sent such a wave of desire over him, it made him shudder. My god, that woman was magical, she made him think he could do anything.

The day of the meeting was here. It was exciting for the agency; this company had a very large budget and was willing to spend it. It would push their agency to the top if they could snag the campaign. The conference room was setup with refreshments, tea, coffee and delicious Turkish desserts. Everyone had the information and was ready to go. As Deren escorted the couple to the meeting room, Can and Sanem came down the hall. Can immediately greeted them, welcoming the pair to his agency. He had included Sanem in this meeting, against the wishes of Deren, of course, but Can paid no mind to her excuses. He needed her there to balance him, she would, no doubt, have an opinion and he always valued it. He introduced Sanem to the couple, and in an instant, Ms. Benoit recognized her.

She was gushing at the thought of meeting Ms. Aydin. She was a huge fan, causing quite a stir. She relayed to her colleague that this was the famous author that had just released her book in France a few weeks ago. And it had become an instant hit, making it a bestseller. Sanem was humble yet excited that she even knew who she was. Ms. Benoit requested an autograph and perhaps a picture with the famous author, which brought a huge eye roll from Deren. Sanem agreed, after the business at hand. With that they started the meeting. The preliminary campaign had met with much approval and they would definitely be in the running for the campaign. All was well.

They inquired about the relationship between Ms. Aydin and the agency. Can proudly informed them that Ms. Aydin was his girlfriend and also had been one of their top copywriters at the agency before she published her book. She was there as an advisor, he valued her thoughts. Can asked how they had come about their company. He told him they had come highly recommended from a couple of friends. Can, being curious, asked their names. He said, “They are old friends of mine from way back, Yigit Ersoz and his sister Polen. I haven’t seen Yigit since college, but I ran into Polen a weeks ago in London, she’s the one that gave me your recommendation. She said she had been in a long term relationship with you, is that not true?”

Sanem was confused as well as enraged, she looked at Can, waiting for his explanation.

Chapter 4

Can was stunned, what was Polen trying to do. He hadn’t seen her since the episode in London at the party. Can cleared his throat, saying, “Yes, I know Polen and we were together for a time, but that was way over a year ago, so no we don’t have a long term relationship. But this is business and I hope that doesn’t effect our ability to work together.” Sanem smiled, pleased with his firmness. She had no idea that Polen had a brother, she wondered if Can knew. Victor assured him that it wouldn’t be a factor at all. He was definitely glad that Polen had suggested the firm to him, they had impressed him with what they had put together.

Ms. Benoit hadn’t forgot the autograph and picture, which made her day. She exclaimed how much she loved her book, wishing she had her copy with her for Sanem to sign. They were to return in two weeks, she would make sure she brought it for her to sign. Sanem was most appreciative and humbled at the compliments. They asked if she was working on a new book and when it would be published. She gave them the information, thanking them for their interest. Juliette insisted she try and come to France for a book signing, the book was a best seller there and it would mean so much to them. Sanem agreed to talk to her publisher, knowing that Can was listening intently.

Deren was becoming increasingly annoyed with all the attention that Sanem and her book was getting. This was about the campaign not Sanem’s book. Can was beaming with pride, watching her handle herself in front of the couple. Her determination and strength was shining, making her even more desirable. But he knew she would have questions about Polen after the clients left. He didn’t know why she worried about Polen, she was nothing compared to Sanem…and so what if they had a history, to him it was never serious. She was just a person of convenience and habit. But her reluctance to let their relationship go did have him upset. He wouldn’t stand by and let her ruin what he had managed to regain with Sanem. Hoping she didn’t have a motive for recommending the agency.

With all the dealings done, Victor and Juliette said their goodbyes. It looked like this would be a great client for the company. Obtaining this type of customer will put them in the fore front of the advertising world. Can knew the final presentation would have to be spectacular, and the whole campaign flawless. The whole office was on a high, a celebration was in the works. He had decided to hold off on a huge party until the final presentation had been accepted. Then they would have a big bash at his house. Emre was overjoyed at the success, he was glad his brother had returned to the agency, all seemed good with the world. Knowing a few months ago the company was struggling, with the talents of Can, it looked the bad times were over. But he knew that wouldn’t have been possible without Sanem, if she hadn’t recused Can from the destructive path he was on. Sanem was the reason for Can’s renewal, and Emre would be forever grateful.

Can was overjoyed, swinging Sanem around, and planting a big kiss on her lips. She was laughing, telling him to put her down. They fell on the sofa in his office, he held her tight, feeling the happiness turn to a deep desire. He needed her, but he never knew how much until now. She fed his will to continue this life, made him excited to wake up each day and be the best he could be. With love beaming, they cuddled together on the sofa. He was sure she was one of the reasons they had snagged this campaign. Her popularity and best seller book helped sway the decision. A knock on his door startled them, they quickly regained their composure. Can called for them to come in, Deren slowly entered. Making sure the coast was clear, they had all been embarrassed before, and she didn’t want that to happen again. She envied Sanem, she had so wanted to be the one to fill that void within Can, be the one to make him happy beyond belief, but she had no way to compete with Sanem. How could she, almost instantly he dropped Polen, a person he had been with for years, for her. Polen was a beautiful, successful scientist and she didn’t even have a chance. But love never had been fair to her, so she had to move on.

She congratulated Can on a job well done, knowing how hard they had all worked on this job. Even Sanem, she would have to give her credit, the ideas she gave shaped the whole presentation. She did have a talent for advertising. They needed to plan the next steps so they were ready when the final presentation came up. Can agreed, but suggested they take the rest of the day to relax and recharge. He was ready to escape to the mountain cabin with his love for some private time. She was hesitant but allowed Can to make that decision. She knew she wouldn’t change his mind when he has determined. Can went to make the announcement that they all had the rest of the day off.

Sanem was still bothered by the fact that Polen was involved with them getting the client. What made her think that she and Can were still in a relationship? Had more gone on in London at their last meeting then he is telling or is it just her demented mind. When Can entered his office, he saw the concern on her face immediately. He went to her, encircled her with his arms, making her think of him as her albatross. His long, strong arms that shielded her from harm, always protecting her with love. “What is your fear, my love? Your face is full of concern.” He whispered into her ear. He knew full well what she had on her mind, but wanted to make light of it. Her fears were unfounded, but with all that she had endured from Polen before, it was completely understandable.

She pulled back from him, letting their eyes meet, his eyes always told the story.

They looked sincere, dark and needy. He was hers, that she knew, but did Polen.

She hoped they could remove her from their lives.

Chapter 5

With everything finished early and they headed out to relax at the cabin. Saying their goodbyes to everyone, they thanked them for the hard work. With the afternoon off, they could spend more alone time at the cabin. Sanem loved that place, it was so special. Although it had good and bad memories, this was where she felt the closest to Can. When he was there, it allowed him to be himself. Just simple, no demands of him, he could simply relax. He really wasn’t a man of extravagance, the small cabin was the testament to that. She loved that about him. The trip there had been fairly quite, he knew she was still dwelling on the fact that Polen had sit up the new clients. He was going to make sure she wouldn’t leave there with any more doubt. He hoped it was just a harmless suggestion she had given to Mr. Aubert.

He quickly started a fire, he had planned to cook some meat and vegetables over the fire. To eat and then relax together was the plan. She gathered the blankets and the big pillows they used to lay on. Spreading everything out on the ground, but not too close to the fire, for the afternoon had become quite hot. She had prepared the salad, and grabbed the trays for them to eat on, then stretched out on the blanket to watch him. He took cooking on the brazier very serious, tending to it intensely. She loved to look at him, then the thought of Polen snuck in. It made her doubt his feelings for her, and that made her upset. Polen always weaved her way into their lives. Even without her presence there, Sanem felt second best, so inept. She had no idea why she made her feel like that. Can turned to see her staring at him, he knew that look. She was comparing herself to Polen in her mind, trying to measure up. In his heart there was absolutely no comparison. Sanem was so much more than Polen could ever be. Their talk would clear the air…

They ate until they almost burst. He cleared the dishes and plopped down beside Sanem. She was already snuggled in and comfy, but waiting for Can. They hugged together, close enough to feel their breath on each other. She looked at Can saying, ” Why did Polen think you still had an ongoing relationship?” Did more happen in London then what you’re telling me.” She quizzed. Her eyes were pleading and sorrowful, so full of doubt. He hated for her to hurt like this. He quickly answered, ” Absolutely nothing happened in London, bebek. “The closest she came to me was when they took that dreaded picture.” And I didn’t even want that, but it happened so fast I couldn’t stop it. Trust me Sanem, there is nothing between us and there never will be again. You have spoiled me for any other woman.” He pinched her cheek, then her nose, telling her, ” Wipe that frown off your face and let me hold you tight, and devour you with kisses.” He laughed.

She pushed Polen out of her mind, forcing her out. She trusted him, but something was telling her not to get too relaxed, to stay alert, she just felt Polen would try something. But now was their time, alone together. Within minutes Can was sleeping like a baby, wrapped in her arms and smiling. She listened to his breathing, it was steady and smooth. it hypnotized her. Soon she too, quickly fell asleep. They slept hard, and better than they had in days. He was first to wake, looking at her, filling himself with the sight of her, letting her soothe his heart and soul. She did more to him than words could say, he would have never thought love felt like this. So satisfying, like nothing else in the world mattered but her… She stirred, feeling him looking at her, smiling, she moved in for a kiss. He covered her mouth with his, with a demand for her encased him sending a jolt through his body… He knew he had to stop, it wasn’t the right time…..

They both decided it was time to pack up and head home. The desire to share his life with her had grown into a necessity. It was becoming more and more evident to him as they closed up the cabin and prepared to leave. He ran the options through his mind, first he would talk to Nihat, hoping they would agree with him and give him her hand. Then he had to find the perfect ring. “Ok, it’s a plan, I will talk to him soon.” He felt like a schoolboy, asking a girl to the dance for the first time. Just the idea had his stomach doing flip flops. He couldn’t wait to tell Emre, but not Leila, she would be sure to give it away. As they drove home, he was unusually When she would glance his way, she saw this silly little smile on his face. She wondered what he was up to, he had such a satisfied look on his face…..

They made it to her house, this was part he hated most, letting her go.. He held on to her hand, kissing it. ” Why do you always have to go home?” Can asked, with those eyes that she hardly break away from. She smiled, ” Can, you know it’s hard on me too, but I couldn’t possibly stay with you all night. My parents would flip.” Her body feeling weak, as Can moved closer to her, warming her with his eyes, ” You know what would fix all of these problems, don’t you. ” He asked. She felt her face become flushed, her breathing was quickened, she turned her head away.  “Can, don’t say anything you might be sorry for later” she chirped. Can looked at her intently, ” What makes you think I would be sorry for anything like that, don’t you want that too?” He questioned. ” I can’t seem to think about anything else” Just you and me together, that’s all I need for the rest of my life.” She turned and looked in his eyes, she saw the look of devotion and a deep display of love. It made her gasp, the look was so intent. Was he really sure, was she really sure…..that field of butterflies erupted inside her, her skin tingled, as he waited for her answer.

” Are you sure, positive, beyond a doubt.” She asked

” Sanem Aydin, this is the only thing I’ve ever been sure of in my life..beyond a doubt in my mind, and positive of in my heart”…….

Chapter 6

Sanem gave him a slight smile, looking away, she said, ” Can, what brought this on, did Polen bring it on. You think I need a proposal to get rid of the doubt I have of her. ” Please, don’t think that.” Can looked confused, he took her hand and said, ” Sanem, my love, my only love, I want to be with you always. Day and night, I hate to bring you home every night it kills me to let you go.” So, no, this is not at all brought on by Polen. She is not in my mind at all, just you and only you.” Sanem could see the seriousness in his face, maybe he did want this. She had dreamed of nothing else since they declared their love for one another, but never felt worthy of the Divit name.

Her mind was her own worst enemy, she knew she had to relief herself of that thought. She loved him with all her heart and soul, she had nothing to be ashamed of. In fact she had developed into quite a successful woman, full of hope for her future. She had a lot to offer, and she longed to offer it all to the man she loved. She touched his face, caressing and stroking his beard, she smiled whispering,  “Can, that sounds like a dream to me, being with you for the rest of my life, but you know our traditions.” Are you willing to follow the steps that my parents are going to require?” His eyes darkened, the desire in that look smothered her. His voice was low and raspy, “There’s nothing, absolutely nothing in this world that I wouldn’t do for you Sanem, just to make you mine completely and wholly. ” I am more than willing, so just get ready.” He gently kissed her lips, but lingered there for an extra second, just to take in the beautiful fragrance that always surrounded her.

She melted, completely in awe of the effect that another human could have on her. Her heart was jumping for joy, but she had to act in control. He opened his eyes, staring into her eyes, he said, ” So we have an agreement then, no backing out. I will handle everything ok.” I’ll do everything by the book, don’t worry,  but what if your dad doesn’t give me your hand, what will happen then,….I know, we will run away together, hide away somewhere secluded and romantic.” He laughed. She immediately filled with fear, her eyes got big, and full of tears. ” Do you think that will happen? ” She spouted. Sometimes she was so gullible it made him laugh, he shook his head, ” No, Sanem, I was joking, I don’t think that will happen. ” My relationship with your parents is good. ” You’ll see, everything will be fine.

She relaxed, he took her in his arms, helping her let go of all the negatives in her mind. They finally parted, and she entered her house, all those thoughts still swirled around in her head, ” I wonder when he plans on talking to Dad.” She thought. He’ll probably  wants it to be a surprise,   Oh My God, I can’t believe it’s really going to happen. She had been so excited she forgot to talk to him about the possible speaking engagements and promotional events for her book. She would be sure an take the time tomorrow to let him know what was going on. While getting ready for bed, her head still filled with Can, she was sure she would be unable to sleep….

Can’s excitement had him nervous, just knowing what was about to be. He poured a drink and sat out by the pool. Thinking first he would look for a ring, it had to be a special one, different yet simple, beautiful and original, just like her. Finding the time to look for that special ring, that would be the problem. Knowing she would be suspicious if he was sneaking around. He was deep in thought, not seeing Emre walk out from the kitchen. ” Brother, I didn’t hear you come in, how long have you been home.” He asked. Can jerked around, startled to see his brother, ” What are you doing up at this time, is everything ok.” He asked.  Emre nodded, saying he was having trouble sleeping. He could see his brother was deep into his thought.  He wondered if the involvement of Polen and the potential clients had anything to do with it. It bothered him to see Can and Sanem be put through so much in the life. ” Is everything ok with you, you seem deep in thought, ” Emre still worried about his brother . Can smiled, ” It’s better than ok, it’s fantastic.” Sanem and I have decided to join our lives together, with her parents blessing, of course, ” I think it’s time for us to get married.” Emre laughed, happy for the couple, but more than anything, relieved they hadn’t let Polen disrupt their lives. The brothers hugged, it felt good to see his brother happy. Emre questioned him about the engagement ritual, when did he plan to talk to Nihat. They were very strict about the procedure. Can smiled, telling him, soon, very soon. Can ask Emre to have Leila keep it all a secret from mother and dad, he wanted to do everything right as not to offend them.

Sanem wanted desperately to go to sleep, her dreams of Can always made her feel so warm and desired. As she drifted off, she recalled his words, ” I want to be with you always.”  Her dreams of him had turned into a nightmare, she trashed about in the bed, calling his name. She envisioned Polen, hanging on Can’s arm, laughing. She was begging for Can to make her stop, but he too was laughing. Then they turned and walked away together arm and arm. Yelling, crying, she tried to run after him but her legs were stuck, frozen and unable to move. And then they were gone…… She sat up in bed, crying and unable to catch her breath. Ah, Sanem, what are you doing, you’re letting that woman destroy you and the only love you’ll ever know. She laid back in her bed, breathless, it seemed so real, did it mean something. She shook her head, she wouldn’t let it mean something. She was worthy… she was a writer, an accomplished writer, and Can loved her, so get all the other stuff out of your mind…….

She didn’t need all this negativity, their love would be enough…..

She prayed for the morning, not wanting to close her eyes again…….

She needed to see Can………..

Chapter 7

Can came out of the shower, getting toweled off and ready to dress. He heard his phone ping with a text. He knew it had to Sanem. He checked his phone, ” Are you picking me up this morning, I really miss you.” She wrote.  He smiled, and replied, ” Of course my love, will be there shortly.” Are you hungry.”  Sanem smiled, he knew me all to well. She replied, ” I’m starving, what are you getting. ”  He texted back, ” Something you love, bagels and tea.” See you in a bit.”     Sanem was anxious to she him, she still had the lingering thoughts of her nightmare invading her mind. She didn’t like this side of her, so insecure and doubtful. How do you get past something like that.  She wanted to be happy, but there was just somethings that couldn’t be fixed.

He picked up their breakfast and drove to Sanem’s, she was watching for him and met him as he pulled up. She jumped in, reaching for him with a hug and a kiss. That was a little unusual for her, since they were still sitting in front her house and in the neighborhood. Can welcomed her actions, returning her affection. He noticed she looked tired, and not her bubbly self. He hoped she wasn’t still concerned about Polen. They shared the bagel, he tried joking with her, but she obviously wasn’t In the mood for it. What had brought on this action, when they parted the night before, she was happy and excited at their future plans. He couldn’t take it anymore, she undoubtedly had a problem and had to find out what it was . He quickly found a place to pull over, he turned the car off and turned around to Sanem. ” Ok Sanem, what has brought on this change in you today, tell me now before we go any further.

Sanem looked down, avoiding his eyes, ashamed to admit the reason for her bad mood. Can was insistent, asking again what was bothering her. She put her hands over her face saying,           ” Can, it’s embarrassing, I had a dream, no I had a nightmare and I can’t get it out of my mind. ” She looked at him searching his face for a reaction. He was staring at her waiting for the description of the dream, finally he asked, ” Well, what kind of dream did you have? ” And please don’t tell me it was about Polen.” She shrugged her shoulders, tilted her head and with a weak smile said, ” I’m sorry Can, I just can’t shake this feeling that something is wrong, or something is  going to happen. I really can’t explain it” Please don’t get upset.”  Can leaned his head back against the seat, he sighed, ” Ah Sanem, nothings going to happen, I won’t let it happen, ok.” Just trust me, it was probably just a fluke, that she even knew this guy and told him about the company.”  She felt bad, but she knew how she felt and it wasn’t easy to overlook her feelings. She knew she had upset him so she raised her hand as if in defeat, ” Ok, you win, nothings going to happen, I believe you. She smiled, touched his hand, signaling she was surrendering her fears  for him to take care of. He calmly stroked her hair and stated, ” I promise I won’t let anything happen, no one will come between us. We are as one, together forever.”

They arrived at the agency, a little late, but Sanem was in a better mood. She made herself comfortable and started making some final revisions to the last few chapters of her book. Can had taken a couple of calls and was doing some research on is laptop. She stood, saying she was going after some tea, would he like some, he accepted. When she returned with the tea she told him they needed to talk. They moved to the sofa to be more comfortable. She started, ” I meant to talk to you last night but we got off on another subject, ” she said with a smile, ” There has been a lot of interest in the new book from several areas. Ahmet has some possible engagements for me, if I’m interested. Can knew this would probably happen but just not this quick. He felt like they had just got back from Greece, and finding themselves. But he couldn’t stand in her way. Can enthusiastically asked, ” Where is the first book signing, does he know yet.” Hope it’s somewhere close.”  Sanem told him they wanted her back in Thessaloniki for the book sighing of the second book, just like the first book. The launch of the second book would take the characteristic of the first, the excitement was growing steadily. She hoped it wasn’t going to interfere with the life plans had discussed the night before.

Sanem explained that a definite date hadn’t been set yet, they were waiting on her consent to move on with their plans. Can’s mind was jumbled with everything, when could he talk to Nihat, would he have time to do this before they wanted her to start the tour.  He hadn’t had time yet to look for a ring, he didn’t  even know where to go first to look for one. Sanem was staring at him, seeing how preoccupied he was, she touched him on the hand. He came back to the moment, he smiled saying, ” Yes my love that sounds great, would it be at the same book store?” I’m sorry, what was the date they set.”  Sanem frowned at him saying, ” Can I didn’t say a date, you weren’t listening, Can I’m serious, we need to talk about it. ”  Can gathered her up in his arms, burying his face in her neck, he breathed in that marvelous scent that drove him crazy. How would be able to let her go, travel about for her book without him. He covered her neck with kisses, she giggled and struggled to get away from him. When they pulled apart, she saw that look that made her weak. How would she be able to let him go, even for a little bit, to promote her book.

Can finally said, ” Sanem we will figure it out, if you have to do this then we will make it work. Try to put it off for a couple of weeks if you can though. You have to give my heart time to get use to the idea of sharing you with the world.

” He always said the most perfect things, making her feel like she was all that mattered.

This love she had for him made her feel she could accomplish anything……

Now, if she could just get Polen to fall off the face of the earth…….Excellent!!

Chapter 8

They remained on the sofa for a while longer. The need to feel her seemed to capture him, she had become the lifeline to his very existence. How was he possibly going to survive without her. She finally broke the hold saying, ” Can, it would only be for a few days,” she said. ” I just don’t know how many engagements they are planning. So the quicker I get them started, the quicker they will be over.” Can was processing it all, thinking, ” I guess I could talk to uncle Nihat first, then while she’s gone would be a perfect time to shop for that, one of a kind ring, that I want to give her.

Can looked at her sadly, he said, ” Ok, I guess your right, find out when they want you to get started, and we’ll go from there. But I’m telling you, I’m not the happiest about it.” He leaned in for a kiss. She smiled telling him she felt the same, but she knew she had to. A knock on his door, changed the subject for then, Emre slowly opened the door, ” Brother, can I come in? ” I need to talk to you about something.”  Can beckoned him in, not moving from the sofa. Emre explained a slight problem with a payment to the modeling agency they had used on the last shoot. There had been a dispute over the commission that had been suggested and the final agreed payment. He needed Can to go over the contract with him.  They moved to Emre’s office to look it over.

Maybe she should call Ahmet and find out a bit more about the timing of the first schedule date. Sanem was quite aware of the topic they had discussed the day prior, and didn’t want to interfere with any plans Can might be hatching up, he loved to surprise her. She went to the conference room to make the call, for a little more privacy. Ahmet was glad to hear from her, telling her the plan for a promotional signing would take place in approximately a month, maybe 5 weeks depending on her finishing the revised draft and getting to them. She explained she was on the last chapter and should be able to get it sent their was by the next day. Ahmet was excited and eager to send the transcript to print. They agreed to talk in a couple of days, after he had a all the time lines in place.

Can found her in the conference room, just finishing her call. She relayed the information she received from Ahmet. Can was relieved to know it would at least be a month before she would be leaving, giving him time to make his plans. Sanem knew the look of concern and asked, ” Can what is the problem, is it the tour. ” Or the problem with the contract? ” Can smiled saying, ” It’s nothing really, just a dispute, hopefully Emre can figure it out. If not we’ll have to find another modeling agency for the cosmetic campaign.” That might be hard to do on such short notice.”         Hey, let’s grab some lunch, are you hungry?.”  He took her hand and they made their way to his car. He was in the mood for the best fish sandwich in town, and that was at their favorite place.

After their long lunch, they return to the office to finish the day. Sanem was revising the last chapter of her book, and it would be ready to send. This process was tedious but necessary, she liked taking care of this step herself, it gave her more control. Two hours later she was done and making it ready to send by overnight courier. They would have it tomorrow, and the next step was print and release….She always got a bit nervous at this time, a little apprehensive, wondering if she had put all that she could into the book, but this book made her proud and she was ready to share with the world. Can and Emre were in a meeting again, she knew they were having a difficult time. Emre had always handled all this situations on his own, so to involve Can she knew it was serious.

Their meeting was running late into the day, and she was getting concerned. The lawyer for the agency had arrived, shedding a more intense look on the situation. With everyone leaving for the end of the day, Sanem decided to call for a courier to pick up the manuscript and send it overnight to Ahmet office in Ankara. She hated to interrupt Cans meeting so she sent him a text saying she would take a taxi home and he could call her later. He immediately came out, apologizing for the time. He thanked her for understanding, revealing the troubles were more than they anticipated. He would call as soon as he was heading home. She headed out to grab a taxi. She hated to see the agency in any kind of legal trouble, it upset Can so. He regarded the company as a testimony for the love of his father.

A few hours after Sanem arrived home, Can called her saying he was on his way home. She knew by sound of his voice, that matters hadn’t been settled. He promised to pick her up the next morning for work, and he would bring breakfast. As she tried to go to sleep, the excitement of finishing her book and getting it sent off kept her mind busy. She was torn, happy on one hand to be starting her journey with her new book, but apprehensive on the other about being separated from Can. Their lives have been so happy, the possibility of marriage bringing them to a new dimension of their relationship, she was ready to take all that their love had to offer.

Can poured a drink, walked to the poolside and sat down. The day had been draining, the dispute most likely wouldn’t be settled, and they would have to pay the amount the modeling agency was asking for. The settlement would be costly, and then they would have to find another modeling agency. The new clients had shown confidence in them and expected them to show them a top notch campaign. Maybe with Sanem being involved, they could develop a perfect presentation, and they would win the campaign.

Sanem….why hadn’t he thought of that earlier. They could use her as a model for the preliminary work on the campaign and take that time to find the permanent model for the cosmetic company. That would let them continue to focus on the business at hand.

Now, just to convince her. Modeling hadn’t made her comfortable, but she had a natural ability in front of the camera.

She had so many special features and abilities, that’s why he loved her more than anything….

He knew he needed to get this problem solved quickly. He had other things he was more interested in, like finding a ring and talking to Sanem’s dad. The reality of her leaving on her book engagements had caused him anxiety, and he was anxious to make that final commitment to her, and join with her forever……

Chapter 9

Can woke with a new sense of calm. He hoped he could convince Sanem, she would be perfect for the job. The clients had been impressed with her anyway, even if it was because of her book. He got ready for work, texted Sanem that he was on his way to pick her up, with her breakfast. She was glad to hear from him, it seemed like forever since she had seen him. She always had such a empty feeling when they didn’t spend the evening together. But she did get to dream about the new adventure that this book would be taking her on. She was proud of herself, her books were a testament of what you can do with your life when you put your mind to it.

She was dressed and waiting for Can. He arrived as the dad was going out the door to the family grocery store. Can quickly got out of the car, hurried around to the front of the car to shake his hand. Nihat was especially fond of Can Divit, he was a good man and he knew he loved his daughter. With all the problems and trials that had shaped their relationship, Can was still there,  standing firm beside Sanem. He couldn’t ask for anyone better for his youngest child. They greeted each other with admiration, and Can wished he could take the time to talk to him then, but Sanem was out the door right behind her dad. She wrapped her arms around Can, giving him a hug, a demure display of affection in front of her father. So he knew this wouldn’t be the right place or the right time, but it would be soon. He opened the door and helped her in his truck, with her dad watching, pleased with what he saw.

Sanem and Can both devoured the bagel and tea he had picked up for them. She was talking nonstop, he knew she was nervous about something. Arriving at the office, they settled in for the day. She was happy to report to him that she sent the final transcript to Ahmet, so it would be just a matter of days before the date would be set for the beginnings of the promotion. He was so happy for her, but on the other hand, it made him sad. If he didn’t have this agency to take care of, he would pack up and travel with her, being her personal bodyguard, spending every minute of every day with her. That was his purpose in life….

The agency’s problems met him early, as they were still talking about the book tour. Emre quickly made his way into Cans office, wanting to find a solution to the dilemma. Can hadn’t had a chance to talk to Sanem about his idea yet, so he ushered Emre out of the office so he could talk. Can explained the reason for the concern of the agency, and the idea he had to save the campaign, and that would give them the time they needed to acquire a new modeling agency. Sanem was hesitant, but she knew he needed her help or he wouldn’t had presented her with this idea. She felt so uncomfortable in front of the camera, put he had always made her look so good, and feel so at ease, she couldn’t deny him. He was ecstatic, this would be perfect. The cosmetic line was just right for her. She loved the whole concept of the line and was ready to help launch the product and help their agency gain a valuable customer.

They discussed the timeline, with her book and the looming possibility of the engagement, she wanted to be able to make her first signing of her book. Can assured her they would be very cautious about the dates. He too was thinking about the talk he wanted to have with her dad, and the decisions they had made about their future. He informed Emre and Deren about the solution he had come up with, they were both in agreement, praising him for his good idea. Immediately Deren got busy, confirming a location for the shoot, and the Can got busy on the layout of the campaign. This would be a perfect pitch for the new clients, he had never been so in tuned for a presentation. He knew it would be exceptional.

As Can and the team quickly put the whole thing into motion, she was waiting for a call from Ahmet, letting her know they had received her transcript. It was late in the morning when he called. His excitement was evident as he praised her work, telling her the literature world would be waiting anxiously for the release. He had a new development in her promotional program. She had been invited to take part in a writers forum in Athens, Greece. It would take place the week before the release of the book. They had put a rush on the release so they could coincide both appearances. She was in shock, how would she be able to get all these things done, she had already promised Can the photo shoot, now this.  But what an opportunity, it wasn’t everyday you were invited to something of this magnitude.

Can had taken Deren with him to select the site for the shoot. The possibilities were endless, but they needed a natural, organic place. Someplace where Sanem and the surroundings came into one, allowing her to showcase the product as only she could. His excitement for this shoot was extreme, he loved to photograph her. She moved him so deeply, as with each time she effortlessly showed the camera her natural beauty. By the end of the day, they had narrowed it down to two selections. The beautiful botanical garden across town or the bright and airy open park at the broad walk along the coast. The decision would be made along with Sanem, he valued her opinion.

As Can and Deren arrived back at the office, she was bursting to tell him the news. But first he wanted her to help select the destination for the shoot. They couldn’t make the decision, so they would use both, a few photos at each place and then piece them together with the campaign slogan. It would be a shoot like non other, and Sanem would put it over the top.

He could tell she was dying to tell him something, so they went into his office, she closed the door, and told him the exciting news. He was happy of course, but he wasn’t ready, not ready to share her with the world just yet. He needed his time with her. But , with enthusiasm, he meet her expectations. They would have to prepare immediately for the shoot and make the presentation of a life time. But what about the engagement and talking to Uncle Nihat, and the ring. They had a hectic next few days coming and he would need Emre’s help. It’s time, he thought, go right now and shop for that ring. Think of some excuse to get out of the office without her and find the perfect ring.

He had to involve Emre, they came up with the excuse of an appointment with their lawyer and quickly made their exit. As they drove to the jewelry store they pasted an antique store, And the urge to visit the store struck him. They parked and walked into the store. He was pulled to the place and he didn’t quite know why. They shopped and looked at all the selection and then he saw it. The ring….A beautiful antique ring. Made of the highly sought after Abalone stone. The stone was said to enhance the feeling of peace, love and compassion. The ring itself had a warm and gentle vibration. As he held the ring the soothing and calming spirit of the stone invaded him. This was the ring, he felt it deep inside. It was gorgeous, the beautiful stone was delicately outlined with small diamonds, on an antiques finished band. He fell in love with it. It was a one of a kind, just like his Sanem. The purchase was made, with both brothers happy and proud of themselves at the find.

They hurried back to the office, both pleased. All the decisions had been made and the schedule was set. He one week to talk to her dad and get the ball rolling. He never felt so much pressure, it all had to be right. As they walked towards his office, he could see Sanem pacing the hall. She looked frazzled, not at all herself.  They rushed to her asking what was wrong…

” You have a visitor Can, in fact two visitors.”  She spewed, shooting daggers at him.

He was shocked and said, ”  What, who is it? ” he asked.

” Well none other than Polen and her brother Yigit, I didn’t even know she had a brother. ” She shouted.

Can sighed, ” Now what, ”  He looked at Emre, almost in defeat, ” I can’t have this now.”…………

Chapter 10

Can encircled Sanem with his arms, stroking her hair. ” Just calm down, theirs nothing she can do to us unless we let her. ” He said softly. ” Come on, let’s see what she wants.” He opened the door and walked in his office, facing Polen and her brother. She quickly came over to Can, with an embrace, and a hello. She introduced her brother saying, ” Yes, Can this is my brother Yigit, you remember I told you about him. He had lived in Canada for a number of years, and now is looking to relocate to Istanbul to be near our mother. ”  Can nodded an acknowledgment, he turned to Sanem and introduced her to Yigit. They exchanged a welcome. Polen glanced at Sanem asking, ” Sanem my dear, how have you been. ” I didn’t think you where still involved with the agency.” Didn’t you start a new life in Chania, or some place like that.” She quirked. Sanem smiled stating, ” I did move there for a bit, but it was never to start a new life, it was just to renew the one I had.” But thank you for being so interested in my life.” Can smiled, thinking, he knew she could handle herself against Polen, It made him proud.

Polen explained their mother had been ill and they were there to inquire about a living facility for her. Yigit was a interested in opening a publishing office here in Istanbul to be close. He was already aware of Sanem Aydin and the bestselling debut book she had. It was quite an honor to meet her and he was hoping to establish a relationship with her to help along his new publishing office. He was quite mesmerized by her, she had a unique beauty, you could tell she was someone special. His mind was already fuzzy with the anticipation of getting to know her.

Can asked, ” Polen, may I ask why you are here,” It’s been a while since we have spoken, and not sure of the need to do so now.” Do you have a specific topic in mind?” His eyes questioned her, searching hers with doubt. Polen was, of course, happy to tell him why she was there. She had recommended his agency to a friend of theirs, of which she had recently learned, had accepted the Divit agency for their campaign. She was there to receive her thanks, and if she had her way about it, to renew their relationship. She hadn’t expected Sanem to be there, so for the time being she would just concentrate on getting Can to trust her again, then she would get back what she wanted. Sanem had stolen him away from her, and she had no intentions of letting her get away with it.

The call to Sanem from Ahmet couldn’t have come at a more inconvenient time. She knew she had to take the call, so she excused herself to answer. He had the dates for the forum and also the book signing. He informed her he would email all the info to her and soon as the print date was set he would let her know. She was in a panic, why did she show up now, how would she be able to leave town for a couple of weeks and leave her here with him, slinking around him like a snake. Maybe she had made a mistake in accepting all of this right now. Was it to soon to be separated? She trusted him, but Polen was a vindictive woman, it was plain to see. She felt her insecurities could make her try anything.

She returned to his office, while Polen was vividly telling him a story about one of the mutual friends in London. She was laughing and reached across the desk to pat his arm, with a side glance to Sanem, she lingered there just a bit to long. Can quickly stood, moving away from her touch. He pulled a chair to his side of the desk, next to him, for Sanem. With a determined look in her eyes, but a demure smile on her face, she sat down next to him. Yigit was witnessing quite the standoff, he thought, ” I think my sister has her work cut out for her if she intends to rekindle a romance with this Can Divit. But the thought of perhaps being able to pick up the pieces of an interrupted relationship between Can and Sanem, definitely had peaked his interest. This move here to Istanbul might just prove to be the best thing he had done.

Can was guarded, not letting Polen get to close. She had belittled Sanem before and he hadn’t taken notice at the time, so now he needed to be even more observant. Can asked Yigit about his possible new publishing venture, just to break the conversation with Polen, that seemed to be getting a little too personal. He provided him the information, but let him know that it wasn’t a new venture. He had been involved with the publishing world for quite some time. He was always looking for new talent, and maybe even an established writer that was looking for a change. He told Sanem what a fan he was of her writing, he felt she had one of the best writing styles he had ever seen. He very sincerely stated, ” Sanem, I would love to work with you at some point.” Your talent is so natural and honest.” If you have any reservations about the publishers your working with now, please, I would be more than happy to take you on as a client.”

She thanked him but assured him she was completely at ease with the group she was working with.  Can could see the look in his eyes, and it set off the defense mode in him. He quickly stepped in telling him that all her needs were being met and he no need to expect anything less. Polen was taking it all in, with the wheels turning in her head, this might just come in handy later. She could see the glint in her brothers eyes when he looked at Sanem. How perfect, she thought, if there was anything she had learned over the years, that was to always trust your first instincts. To get Can back, she would first need to distract Sanem, maybe with a need person that could shower her with a wealth of attention, and offer her all her dreams of being beyond a famous writer.

And who else, but a loving brother that would do anything for his sister…… That naive girl from the district wouldn’t know what hit her…..until it was to late.

Chapter 11

Sanem was uncomfortable with so much flattery being thrown around, even Polen was singing her praises. Telling Yigit how talented she thought Sanem was. Can finally stood, announcing they had a lot of work to do, he thanked Polen for sending the new clients their way. She also stood, reaching for his hand and then moved for a hug. Always with a look towards Sanem, measuring the effect, she kissed him on the cheek. She nodded a goodbye at Sanem, with a smug smile. Yigit shook Can’s hand, then reached for Sanem’s hand. He took her hand in his, bowed towards her, as if she were royalty, and kissed her hand with a lingering look. Can felt his anger rise, he didn’t like this game they were playing.

With that,  they made there way to the elevator. Polen had the look of confidence, as if she had just won the lottery. Sanem thought, ” Why does she look like that, so sure of herself. If she thinks she’s getting Can back, she sadly mistaken.” I’m not going to roll and play dead.”  The look from Polen’s eyes, sent a wave of fear through Sanem. Her skin was covered with goosebumps, like the ones you get from watching a horror movie. ” This woman is not going to give up, but then, neither am I.” Sanem thought.  Yigit, again saw the look of intimidation come from Sanem, as the elevator doors closed. He knew his sister, determination was always her strong point, he had a slight twinge of guilt at the thought.

Can shook his head in disbelief.  He turned to Sanem, ” They are quite the pair, don’t you think.” Yigit is a charmer, ” Kinda creepy though.” He smirked. He looked at Sanem, waiting for an agreement, but she was staring blankly at the elevator. ” Sanem, bebek, are you ok?” He asked. Sanem blinked her eyes, realizing he was speaking to her, she looked at Can with confusion. Did Can not see the need to fear her, was he blind to it, or was she just paranoid. Quickly she smiled at him, ” I’m fine my love, yes they are, quite the pair.” She said. They headed back to his office. She needed to tell him about the call from Ahmet, but she was second guessing to whole process now. Can had shaken the entire encounter off and was diving back into his work. The photo shoot was sent and the cosmetic company had been informed of the changes in the model choice. Things were good…or were they..

As Polen and Yigit got in his car, he knew his sister was full of ideas, and was bursting to tell him. At times he was a little scared of her, her mind thought was a bit vindictive at times. She was very good at, getting even, as they say. She smiled at Yigit, ” Well, what did you think of Sanem?” She asked.  ” Quite beautiful and very talented, don’t you think.”  He stared at her saying, ” And very much taken, from what I could see.” What’s your point.”  Polen smiled, ” That’s a minor detail, as far as I can see, there’s no ring on her finger.”  So maybe there’s nothing serious.”  He let that sink in for a minute, maybe she was right. It could be a win win situation for them both, she got Can back and he could have the top named Turkish author in his publishing house. Hmmm, it was worth thinking about.

Sanem was totally distracted and nervous, pacing back and forth. Can looked up at her with concern. ”  Sanem, would you stop worrying about them, they’re gone. Come, sit down.”  He turned his chair and motioned for her to set on his lap. She quickly looked around, to see if anyone was watching, then curled up in his lap, letting him soothe her. His touch had such an effect on her, it calmed her like nothing else.  ” So safe, ” she thought, ” How will I feel like this if I in another country, away from him and his comfort” I don’t know if I can do this.”  He stroked her hair, feeling her relax, he knew she worried to much about Polen. But he would feel the same if the tables were turned. It angered him just to see Yigit kiss her hand that way. He wouldn’t let anything or anyone come between them.

Can closed his eyes, with Sanem snuggled in his lap, he let his mind wander. He thought about the beautiful ring he had just bought, and how happy she would be when she saw it. His life was the best it had ever been, right now, even with all the trouble with the agency and the arrival of Polen, he was happy. His heart was full, actually, it was running over with love. His life was just beginning, everything before this was just pretend, a nonexistent reason to live. Now to make there lives as one, sealed together with a bond to last forever. He would get away and talk to Nihat,  but it had to be soon. Sanem broke the silence saying, ” Ahmet needs me in Greece a week earlier than expected.” I’ve been invited to a writers forum.”  Can’s eyes opened; What? How would It be impossible to get everything done in two weeks.

She lifted her head from his shoulder, looking in his eyes. They read as sad and longing, the need to keep her with him surrounded her. He knew it would be hard to let her go, but to love her is to let her be the best she can be. They would make it work, they had too. He asked,  ” When did you find out, ” He questioned. ” That was the phone call I just received, ” They want me in Athens in two weeks, the forum is for 3 days, and then on to Thessaloniki for the release and book signing.” Do you think you can make at least the book signing ? ” She pleaded. He kissed her cheek and said, ” Let them just try and keep me away, ” Yes, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”    She gently kissed his lips, it refreshed her and made her strong. She knew he was her’s, but the loneliness of not being in his arms was already causing her to panic. With Polen here she would need to pull all the trust she had to the front of her mind, and let her soul be in control of her heart.

” This was her time and Can would be there for her, no matter what “……….

Chapter 12

After the trying day they had, Can thought it fitting to go to the mountain cabin, cook on the open fire and lay under the stars. Alone, just the two of them, with no other distractions. It would recharge them, and allow them to except the changes that was happening in their lives. He called Mevkibe and ask permission to whisk their daughter away for the evening, explaining to her the events of the day and how Sanem was feeling. Of course Ms Mevkibe understood, she couldn’t deny Can, she had such a tender spot for him in her heart. She wondered how a mother could possibly leave a child behind, and never contact him for so many years. It caused her great pain for him, and she would do anything for him.

The evening was perfect, cool enough for a fire, just right for snuggling. She talked about the writers forum, and how excited she was to have been invited. It was an author’s dream to be included in such a program. From what she understood there would be authors from all genres there. Then the book signing, that was just icing on the cake, she was so glad to return to the same book store. Can listened intently, so proud yet so sad, she had such ambition, and drive, it would be hard to hold her back. He remembered that same feeling, when he had started his photography business. He couldn’t get enough, but now it seems his priority has changed. Though he still loves his photography, it’s her that he can’t get enough of.  But he remains a strong supporter and he always would. They discussed all their plans, how long she would deem it necessary to go away on the book tours, how many writers forums she would feel destined to go too. All these things that would rule how they lived their lives. When would they start their family, and they both wanted a big family, so the timing had to be right. Can was along for the ride, and what a ride it would be. This lovely and special woman had captured him and made his life a wonderful thing.

The time was late before they knew it, and she needed to go home. That time again, that time he hated. Tomorrow he would talk to her dad, and the engagement would be set. Then the photo shoot later in the week, it was going to be a packed week. He hoped there wouldn’t be any other distractions from Polen or her sleazy brother, that would be all they needed. He dropped her off in front of her house and then drove home, tired and ready for a good nights sleep. But this would not be the case…He had know longer made it inside, before there was a knock on his door. Knowing Emre and Leila where out for the evening, he expected that Emre had forgotten his key. He opened the door to find Polen staring back at him. Surprised, he squinted his eyes and said, ” Polen, excuse me, but what are you doing here? ” We said all there was to say today In my office.”  She boldly pushed past him and made her way to the living room. Can was in shock, this woman is getting on my last nerve, he thought. She immediately took off her jacket and sat down, looking at him as if waiting for an explanation. She asked in a very serious tone,     ” What was Sanem doing at the agency today, I thought you two were spilt up.” She went off to Greece and you went to the Balkan Mountains.” What happened Can, did she come crying back to Istanbul as soon as you got home. ”  Her voice took on a high pitched squeal, ” Can, are you going to answer me.”  He was stunned, finally saying, ” I owe you nothing Polen, and certainly not an explanation of my private life.” Why would you think I did anyway.” We were over long before I even said it was over.”  Polen walked over to the bar and poured herself a drink, she turned to Can, ” So that night in London, when you came back from your photo shoot, why didn’t you tell me then it was over? ” I waited for you at my apartment,”  what was I to think.”   You left her and took the job I got you, I thought, to be with me. Can swung around, staring her in the eyes, ” That you got me. ” Are you sure about that Polen. My talent and ability got me that job, not you.” There’s really nothing to talk about, you need to leave.”

Polen positioned herself on the sofa, and sipped on her drink. Can was exhausted and ready for bed, but getting to leave was quite impossible. He sighed, then politely said, ” Polen, our relationship was over long ago, please don’t make yourself look pathetic by holding on to a empty future. ” She smiled, ” Can my future is with you, and Sanem will be the one alone, that is if you want to ever have a photography career again. I have a lot of contacts in that circle and it would only take a couple of phone calls and a bad review to cause you to lose face. With the episode that has already happened in your career, another incident could be too much. I will let you think about it for a while, who can benefit you more, Sanem or myself. Can’s anger was surrendering to his better judgement, the volcano was about to erupt, went Emre and Leila walked in the door. Polen quickly changed her demeanor and stood to leave. She briefly acknowledged Emre, but said nothing to Leila. She looked at Can, saying again for him to think about what she had said. She nodded as she walked out the door.

Emre and Leila both questioned Can, but he was to angry to explain. So many thoughts running through his mind, was this new client just another ploy in her bag of tricks, to make him dependent on her. Emre was confused as to the purpose of her actions, she would ruin his career just for the sake of having Can. And what about Sanem, how far would she go, could she possibly run Sanem away. Can rants were not making any sense and Leila was concerned for her sister.  He hoped she would leave, return to London and leave them alone. It took a while for Can to calm down, and be able to think logically. He was sure the new client was not working under Polen’s direction. Emre suggested they continue as if nothing happened.

Can stated, ” Well I  going to talk to Nihat tomorrow, and ask for permission to marry Sanem. Then set our engagement date, all before she’s to leave in a couple of weeks.

I won’t let Polen cause a scene”…………..

I told Sanem, I wouldn’t let anything or anyone come between”…and I meant that……

Chapter 13

Sanem woke with an uneasy feeling, she knew it was the aftermath of Polen’s visit. Her brother Yigit had definitely made her squirm, just at his touch. He might have been a nice guy, but just knowing he was her brother was enough to turn her off.  She wondered why they had shown up, all of a sudden. Was it really because of the new client, or was that just an excuse. Sanem’s thoughts were running wild, ” Well, with Polen you never know, she has her own agenda. That’s the way it is with crazy people. ” she reasoned.  As she dressed for work, Can sent his morning text, ” Good morning my love, will be at your door in 30 minutes.” I missed you ”  Sanem smiled and sent one back, ” Me too my love, see you then.”

Can had decided not to tell Sanem about his late night visitor. She would become to upset, and she didn’t need to be with all of her upcoming events. She needed to be as stress free as possible. He would handle Polen. He wondered how she could possibly think that his career was in her hands. He had a great relationship with all of the commissions he had worked with, his talent spoke for itself. It was nothing more than empty threats.

They chatted as her drove them to work, about everything but what was foremost in their minds, Polen…Can was laying the ground work for an excuse to be out of the office for a while that afternoon. That was the only way he would be able to talk to Nihat without her. An unexpected meeting with the agency’s lawyer would award him the time to go back to the neighborhood and talk to her dad. It was just a little white lie….But a very important one. He wanted to make this engagement official, and as soon as possible.

Polen and Yigit were looking at an office space for his new publishing venture. The perfect one,,and it was just a few doors down the street from Fikri Harika. Yigit had welcomed the plan that his sister had. It might work, but he thought it worth a try. She was definite about her plot, all in the name of love..Polen was sure that Yigit had an interest in Sanem, be it personal or professional, she really didn’t care. Just anything to discredit her in Can’s eyes. A little doubt of her faithfulness is all he would need.

The morning was busy. Sanem tried to help where ever she could. She always had ideas, most were worth listening to. Can took her to lunch, it was a quick lunch, he had that imaginary meeting with the lawyer, and he didn’t want to be late..Can dropped her off at the agency, she would work with Deren  on the wardrobe for the cosmetic shoot. It would require several changes, in different settings, so everything had to be just right. Can hurried to her neighborhood, going straight to their family grocery store. Nihat and Mevkibe both sat in front of the store, visiting with the neighbors. They were surprised to see Can pull up, but he was welcomed with joy. He was nervous, he had never done anything like this before. In his memory there had been only a few times that he had even asked a girl out on a date, let alone ask for her hand in marriage. They could see his apprehension and they knew immediately what had brought him there. Can started with how much he cared for Sanem, she meant the world to him. He would always love and protect her, for the rest of his life. Mevkibe smiled, looking at her husband, remembering that day in their own lives, and how her father forbid to give her to Nihat.  She knew how Nihat felt about Can, this wouldn’t be the case for them. They would be overjoyed to have Can as a son. After Can’s long and agonizing speech, Nihat stood and smiled, extended his hand to the man that would be his daughters husband, confirming his approval.

Can couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he drove back to the office. They had agreed on an engagement date of the next night. Can would come with flowers and candy, to ask for her hand. Mevkibe would be the one to inform Sanem that Can was coming to affirm their union, and they would prepare their things together. Her mother was happy beyond belief, for her child. She had the person that was designed for her, heart and soul, to blend together as one. There’s nothing better in life than seeing your children succeed.

Yigit took the lease on the offices down the street from the agency, all and all, it had been a profitable day. Now to find out what publishing house was working with Sanem, It wouldn’t be hard, then find out everything about her schedule he could. Polen was itching to hear from Can, she knew he would be angry at first but he would come around. He always came back to her, they had a special bond. If Yigit could take care of Sanem, Can would coming running back to her. She intended to let him stew about It for now and then she would go to see him In a couple of days. She had all the time in the world, she could wait. She had taken a leave of absence from her lab in London, so there was no need to hurry the process. She would take this time to help Yigit find out all the particulars about Sanem’s new book.

Can returned to the office, his heart as happy as it could be. The check list was getting smaller, he just might pull this off to spite the arrival of Polen and all the trouble she was bringing them. There was one thing he had in his mind to do and that was to talk to Victor, and see if he had any information about Polen that he should know. He knew they were old friends but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. There had to be something that Can could use against her. With her using his career as a bargaining chip just wasn’t going to cut it with him. He had worked far to hard to develop his talent and he wouldn’t let her tear it down over this.

With the day over and both Sanem and Can eager to spend some time together, he knew he needed to take Sanem home so her mother could tell her about the engagement date for the following night. There was certain preparations that would handle before the party. He didn’t want any mistakes….Can reluctantly drove her home with her pouting all the way, he had lied and told her had a prior appointment with a couple of old friends, to watch a sporting event at a local sports bar. He would text or call her when he got home. They said their good nights and he was on his way.

Sanem was met by her mother, at the door. ” Sanem we must hurry,” she exclaimed, ” There’s many things to get ready” Sanem had no idea what she was talking about. ” Ready for what mom, ” she asked

” Well for tomorrow night, of course…Can will call on us to ask for your hand”…and we must be ready

” Can? ” Tomorrow night? Here. Oh my god, he’s really going to do it”……

Chapter 14

Yigit had a few connections in the publishing world, some in Canada and even in Italy. He had heard of the offices that were in charge of Sanem’s book and they had the reputation as one of the best around. Yigit made a call in hopes of finding out her schedule for the upcoming launch. Inquiring about a possible book signing date for the launch of her new book. They informed him her schedule had already been booked for the first three weeks of the release. In his cunning way he managed to get her itinerary. A writers forum in Athens, that’s interesting, he thought. That would be something he could look into. Polen had the wheels turning in her head already. She would make this work, Yigit could go to the same forum, with the excuse of finding talent for his new publishing house. Maybe a little encounter with the perfect and famous, Ms Sanem, could prove to be her downfall. Ah, yes,  how perfect she thought she was, it would be fun to show the world how imperfect she really was.

As Can and Sanem made their way to work that morning, neither discussed the engagement party that was to happen that evening. Just the looks between the two, said it all. Sanem was anxious, but knew everything was ready for their special night. As in tradition, it was to have an element of surprise. He would arrive with Emre and Leila, they would witness the engagement, and the exchange of the rings. Can had already purchased the ring for Sanem, and would present it to her that evening, and she would offer Can their traditional gold band to symbolize their upcoming marriage. The time was to be joyous and sacred, the same as the union of two people in love.

They went about the day as usual, focusing on the photo shoot for the cosmetic company. They would start the shoot the next day, everything had been planned and organized. Can’s mind wouldn’t rest, thinking of Polen and her threats. After lunch, Sanem and Leila excused themselves, leaving early so they could get ready for the party. Leila would help Sanem and her mother that afternoon, then go home, get ready herself, and return with Can and Emre. Her mother’s best friend and neighbor. Milihat, would attend also. With this time alone, Can decided he would call their new client, Victor, and maybe get sone information about Polen.

He rang his number, Victor answered, excited to hear from Can. They exchanged welcomes and Can got right to the point. ” Victor, I hope you don’t feel this is out of place, but can you tell me what you know about Polen. It has been some time since I had last seen her.” He briefly filled him in on some of the details of their relationship, not going into it all. Victor told him that Polen had been having some problems over the last several months. Her bad judgement of some things had jeopardized her reputation at the lab. From what he understood, the foundation that supported her lab had threaten to pull their funding if she didn’t seek professional help. Can was shocked, Polen had always been an intelligent and level headed person. What had brought on this change. He explained to Victor that Polen had shown up there in Istanbul, acting irrationally,  and he was concerned about her. Victor somewhat confused, reported that he was under the impression she was to go for some medical help, and was given a leave of absence to do so. They talked some about the campaign and said their goodbyes. Can was afraid of what had brought her there, could she possibly harm Sanem. He decided not to tell Sanem anything about what he had found out, he didn’t want to spoil the evening he had waited for so long. He was definitely going to keep an eye out, but at least he had a bit of leverage to work with.

At the end of the day Can and Emre rushed home to change and pick up Leila. He did inform Emre of what Victor had told him about Polen. And he also was shocked and concerned to learn she was in distress and needing medical help. They decided to put it in the back of their minds for now, and concentrate on the engagement party. They arrived right on time, everything was perfect, Sanem was preparing the coffee when they arrived. Emre did the honors in asking for her hand for Can. Nihat didn’t hesitate with his answer, he couldn’t have been more proud to have Can as a son. He was an exceptional young man, just right for his most beloved daughter.

The ceremony was all they hoped it would be. The party afterwards had been opened up to all the neighborhood, for them to celebrate the upcoming union of their Sanem. It was a late night and Can hated to leave but tomorrow was the photo shoot for the cosmetic company, and they needed it to go well. Nihat and Mevkibe left the couple alone to say their goodnight,  Sanem hugged Can refusing to let him go. Can breathed in her smell, enough to last until the morning. The parting was so hard for them, Can promised to make this the shortest engagement ever, as soon as she was back from her book signing, they were getting married, even if it was just a simple ceremony at the wedding hall. He didn’t see any need to wait, it seemed like he had been waiting his whole life for her. She agreed, but she would need to take care of her book events first. They finally parted, with Can promising to pick her for the ride to work the next morning. Just feeling the ring on his finger made him able to sleep that night, she was almost his….

It was a fun filled day, the news of their engagement made the office erupt with happiness. Even Deren had to wish them well, she knew she never had a chance to have Can as her own, it just wasn’t in the cards for her. The photo shoot surpassed all of their expectations. Sanem was a complete natural when it came to modeling, especially with Can handling the camera. There wasn’t anything they couldn’t do. They all returned to the office at the end of the shoot, jubilant with the outcome. The presentation was only 3 days away, so there was still a ton of work to do. Can and Sanem were met by Polen, waiting for him in his office. Just the site of her disturbed Sanem, making her feel ill. Can demanded to know what she was doing in his office.

She noticed the ring on Sanem’s finger first, and then saw the one on Can’s. She smirked, ” So you think this ring will get you my man, ” she asked Sanem. ” And Can, I thought you had more insight then that, can’t you see she’s using you.” She laughed, ” Thats ok, go ahead and have your little fun and games. She’s going to cost you your photography career.” …..Hope she’s worth it”……

Sanem shot a look at Can and could see the anger boiling.

Was she threatening his career, how can that be. She wouldn’t let that happen……

Before Can could say a word, Polen turned and stormed out the door……

Chapter 15

Sanem turned to Can with eyes full of questions. ” Can, what did she mean, lose your photography career, ” She can’t do that can she?” Her eyes fill with tears, ” Such a mean and vindictive person,” she thought. ” Can, tell me what she is talking about, please.” She shouted. Can took a deep breath to calm down, he lowered his voice to almost a whisper, ” Sanem, my love there’s nothing she can do to us, these are empty threats.” She just wants to make us unhappy” She threw her arms around his neck and held on for dear life.  ” Can just make her go away ” She cried. ” This is our time, why can’t we be happy,” She trembled inside, she didn’t like the way that woman always made her feel. Can took her to the sofa, sat down and held her, letting her calm down. Deren knocked on the door, asking if their was anything she could do for them. Can replied with a thank you, and telling her to send everyone home for the rest of the day. Emre offered to go talk to Polen and see if he could put an end to her antics, but Can refused.

They stayed in his office until Sanem was ready to leave, she wasn’t looking forward to saying goodnight to Can tonight. When Can arrived at home he called a friend that sat on the Board of Photography Union. He told him about Polen’s threats, urging him to be aware of what she might do and asked him not to believe anything she said. Can told him, ” She seems destined to ruin my career with lies, and I hope you will understand that. His friend had all the faith in Can and had known him for years. He assured him they would handle whatever lies Polen came up with, and treat them as insufficient. Can felt better just letting them know what could possibly happen, now he hoped Polen didn’t have a the same fate for Sanem.

The next few days had Can guarded and suspicious. But they carried on with there work, and Sanem was getting closer to leaving on her book event. The presentation was a hit, they love the campaign and of course, wanted Sanem to be the face of their brand. She thanked them profusely, but declined the offer. They would find the perfect model to put out there for the world to see. Their marriage plans were coming along nicely, Sanem was leaving it up to her mom and Leila, to organize it all while she was gone, she jokingly told them, “Just tell me when and where and I’ll be there.” They knew Can wanted a wedding  as soon as she returned. The absence of Polen had Sanem worried, what was she up to. She knew they hadn’t heard the last of her yet. Can as well, had the same reservations, but had tried not to let them show.

Yigit was busy making plans to attend the writers forum as well. It would be a perfect opportunity to acquire any up and coming new writers that didn’t already have a publisher. And Polen was counting on him to put that spark of doubt in Can’s mind about Sanem’s faithfulness. He almost felt sorry for Can, when a Polen was out for revenge, there was no stopping her. And Sanem, well……he knew his sister, she would make her pay…..He had noticed that she was a lot more aggressive than she used to be, but he thought it to be that of a scorned woman. They both would have a lot to gain if this plan worked.

Sanem and Can were spending their last evening together at the mountain cabin. He brought take-out because he didn’t even want to let her go long enough to cook. They stayed snuggled in their blankets for hours, the fire crackling and the stars shining. Sanem’s heart was breaking, how would she do it, she thought. The plan was for him to join her in Thessaloniki for the book release and signing, but that was still almost two weeks away. Her plane left at 10:00am, so he would take her to the airport and wait with her until she boarded. Her bags were packed and ready, so there would be nothing for her to do in the morning. She would stay with him all night , if her mother wouldn’t kill her, but she finally talked him into taking her home about 3am.

Can brought her breakfast the next morning, as always, refusing to break their routine. The goodbyes were tearful but they knew she would return soon. Their drive to the airport was in silence, with her clinging onto his arm. The flight was on time, and they made the announcement to board, Sanem had the feeling of fear. It crept all through her, it was a different fear from when she left Istanbul the first time, running to Greece to start a new life. This was a fear of not being able to hold on to the life she now had. She loved him deeper than she ever thought possible, their trust would surely get them through this. Their eyes held each other until the gate closed, Can felt the empty feeling that he had while he was gone on his trip, she was his heart and soul. How would he survive the next ten days, without her touch, her smell. He watched as the plane taxied down the runway and lifted up into the sky, the tears flowed without shame. These feelings were foreign to him, unconditional love, the first of many feelings she had introduced him to. He was so proud of her, that was the only thing that would keep him sane during this time…….

Yigit had confirmed his flight to Athens. He would fly out the next day, and get there just in time for the forum to start. He knew that Sanem would already there, so his arrival wouldn’t be suspicious. Their plan was to simply, watch every move she made, how hard could be. Be ready to record any suspicious behavior. Even if he thought it was nothing, take a picture anyway. Polen was very adamant about recording every move.

Can drove home from the airport, dreading the next days, he knew she would call as soon as she landed. He wanted to get home and be ready to answer the phone when it rang. He missed her more than he thought, it was almost unbearable. The flight from Istanbul to Athens was 1hr 30 mins, he would have to hurry and get home for her call. He had taken the rest of the day off, he knew he would be worthless after seeing her go. She called the instant she landed. She waited for her bag to come, feeling uncomfortable, she called Can. He grabbed the phone, eager to hear her voice.

” Sanem are you ok, I miss you,” he moaned.  She felt the same pain, but tried to sound brave and in control.   ” Can, my love I’m fine, this will be over before you know it. ” I’m getting my bag and taking a taxi for the hotel.” I’ll call as soon as I’m settled” I love you”…. She whispered. The taxi ride was short, about 10 mins from the airport. Within a half hour she was in her room, and what a lovely room it was. Ahmet had out done himself in picking her accommodations. And as always, had an abundance of food already waiting for her in her room. Ahmet wouldn’t arrive until tomorrow, so she was on her own tonight.

She changed into comfy clothes and settled in on the sofa to call Can.

” Can, I’ve got a beautiful room,” she said…. He sighed, wishing he was there.

” Do you want to stay with me tonight? ” she whispered. ” You’re with me, in my heart, always….

Chapter 16

Ahmet had arrived just an hour before the forum was to start. Apologizing for being late, the flight had a slight delay in taking off. She had already made her way to the Conference Centre. It was a beautiful place. Being only a 6 min. walk from her hotel, it  couldn’t have been any better. She wanted to get there early to get the feel of the place. Ahmet met her there, eager to get started, he led Sanem around, introducing her to some of the other writers. He had been to this forum a few times and had made several friends, along with some important contacts. Sanem blended in just as he thought she would. She had the confidence of a world famous author, and everyone was taking notice.

Can had already spoke to Sanem earlier that morning, but was dying to call her again. He rang her phone, ” Can my love, hello.” Is everything ok?” She asked. He whispered, ” My love, I miss you so much, I had to call again, am I disturbing you.” Sanem’s heart fluttered, so hard it almost made her jerk. ” Of course not Can, I was just thinking about you.” She stated. They chatted a minute then Ahmet came over with a young girl for her to meet, they said their goodbyes again and hung up. She was always glad to meet her fellow writers, the girl was a big fan and wanted her autograph. She still couldn’t get use to that, someone wanting her autograph, that was just crazy….They first session ran about two hours long, it was wonderful listening to all the people speak, and give their advice and expertise. There was a break before the next round of classes, giving her time to visit the restroom and freshen up. She rushed out of the restroom and started back to the auditorium, to take her seat. She would have a 30 min. Q&A session on her style of writing what they resumed, she was very excited. As she turned to go into the room she saw Yigit standing across the way, talking to a young man. She froze thinking, is Polen here too, she looked around in a panic. Her thoughts were running wild, she was terrified, and needed to call Can, but what could he do, he was in Istanbul and she was here. She knew there was no hiding, because she had to take the stage. She took her seat at the table, scanning the room looking for Ahmet, then she met Yigits eyes. He was staring at her, he nodded his head in recognition, and smiled. Her eyes darted away and she thought, ”  What a creep, ” Whats he doing here anyway.”

Can was working but it didn’t have his full attention. He was worrying about her and how she was doing. He knew she would call on her lunch break, but he was anxious. He was busy trying to find that perfect model for the cosmetic ad, it wasn’t going to be easy replacing Sanem. Leila pecked on his door and came in saying, ” Have you talked to Sanem, is she doing ok.”  I’m so excited for her I can hardly stand it.”  Can smiled, ” Yes we talked twice this morning and now I’m waiting for her to call on her lunch break. ”  She seems to be doing great.” He reported. The phone ringing broke their conversation, Can waved at Leila as she went out the door. He quickly answered the phone ready to hear Sanem’s voice. ” Hello my one and only, I miss you.” He growled. ” Can, Yigit’s here,…Why would he be here? ” she spouted. His blood ran cold, ” What, Yigit is there, at the same forum.” He exclaimed. ” Sanem, is Ahmet there?” Stay with him and please don’t leave his side. Has Yigit tried to talk to you? He questioned. She told him he hadn’t, and she would find Ahmet and tell him what was going on. Can would check on the next available flight out to Athens, and he would be on it. Sanem hated to have him drop everything, and run to protect her. The new clients needed his attention, she begged him to hold off for a bit and see what would happen. She told him, Polen’s not here, so that means she there In Istanbul, so be careful. He insisted she stick to Ahmet like glue until he got there.

Sanem couldn’t locate Ahmet, so she gathered her food from the buffet and found a table in the atrium. Her nerves were on edge and she was just a little jumpy. She tried not to make eye contact with anyone, but the feeling of someone standing behind her made her skin crawl.    “Hello my friend, I was hoping to see you here.” Her mind knew the voice, she swung around looking into the face of Luca. She sprung to her feet, and wrapped her arms around his neck. Never had she been so glad to she anyone in her life. ” Oh My God, Luca, what are you doing here.” She screamed. They sat at her table to catch up on the last few months. Her happiness was overflowing, they laughed and she filled him in on all the events of her life since they had last seen each other. He noticed the ring, and expressed how truly happy he was for her and Can. He also had found someone that he could share his future with. She was excited he had allowed himself to open up and love again. In all the excitement, she never noticed Yigit catching the reunion of her old friend on his phone. This was terrific he thought, she had made it so easy for him. The pictures of the two together would be hard to deny, Polen might have her weapon after all. After their meal, and the visit, they made their way back to the auditorium. Just another two hour session and they were done for the day. Luca invited her for dinner in the evening, and of course she accepted. Luca’s fiancé was arriving the next day and he was dying to introduce them. The last two hours was more hands on, with readings and in-depth analysts of the writings. Finally the day was over. She headed to her hotel, without anymore sightings of Yigit she was more comfortable.

The first few pictures came in on Polen’s phone, and she couldn’t believe it. She didn’t know it would be this easy, what the luck. She texted Yigit, telling him to keep following her and sending more pictures. She would get the next flight out to Athens. Making the arrangements, her flight was leaving in two hours. She grabbed a bag and made her way to the airport. She needed to be there for the downfall of Sanem, and to claim Can once again as her own.

Can was anxious to talk to Sanem, waiting for her to call after the forum was over. As she walked back to her hotel, she called Can. He was delighted to hear she hadn’t seen Yigit anymore, but let her know he had a flight out early in the morning. She tried to persuade him not to come but he wouldn’t hear of it. They needed to be together, and he would be there. She happily told him that Luca was there and they were having dinner together that evening. Can knew the relationship between the two was strictly a friendship, just like the one with CeyCey. Just knowing he was there with her, put Can’s mind at ease. Luca had been totally honest with him in Chania, and he had the upmost respect for him. They said their good nights and Can told her he would see her first thing in the morning…..

Can’s phone pinged with the alert of a message…

” What is this, ” he thought,….pictures…

Ah Polen, what are you doing……..

Chapter 17

The pictures kept coming, probably twenty all together. Now he knew why Yigit was there at the  writers forum. She had her brother following Sanem, but what would have happened if Luca hadn’t been there. Would Yigit have taken it upon himself to try and discredit her. He tried to call Polen but her phone was unavailable, she had really crossed the line with this. Knowing  her problems, he feared for Sanem, was she capable of harming her. He made a call to Sanem, but it went to voicemail, he left a message. ” Sanem stay with Luca as long as you can this evening. And make sure he takes you to your door. Please do as I ask. ”  He prayed she would listen to her voicemail before leaving Luca. Trying Polen again and again with no  answer, he knew she was probably already in Athens. If she was in town, she would have brought the pictures for him to see. There was only one other thing to do.

Polen and Yigit had a table in the back near the rear exit of the restaurant. They watched intently, snapping picture after picture. She was nearing her fuming point, how dare she make a mockery out of Can, flouting around with some other guy. She was such a simple village girl, without morals. Yigit watched his sister change into a totally different person right before his eyes. From where he sat this encounter between Sanem and this mystery man was nothing more than two colleagues sharing a dinner. Maybe Polen was a bit unbalanced, he thought, as he listened to her rant on about this unworthy woman. ” Polen, I think you have this all wrong, I don’t see anything to prove your allegations.” He started, trying to disarm the situation. She turned to Yigit, her eyes glaring, ” So she has blinded you as well, go ahead desert me, I don’t need you to help me.” She spewed. She would make Can see how she was the best one for him, she had always been loyal and faithful to him. With all this damning evidence, there was no way she could beg her way out of this one. She knew Sanem wouldn’t leave him on her own, this was the only other way.

Sanem and Luca agreed to get together the next day after Luca’s fiancé arrived. Can would be there early, so they could have lunch. She was thrilled that Can was on his way. They were going to call it a night and get back to their rooms. As they left the restaurant, Sanem noticed a voicemail from Can. She listened, hearing the desperation in his voice, she relayed the message to Luca. He was immediately alarmed,  took her arm and they walked to her hotel. She briefly filled him in on the bazaar actions of Can’s ex-girlfriend, and telling him about her strange brother, that she had seen there at the forum. She called Can to tell him they had made back to her room safely, and Luca would stay with her until the morning. Can’s plane would be in Athens by 7:30 and he would come straight to the hotel.

Polen watched as Luca and Sanem took the elevator up to her room, together. Sanem had done the unthinkable, she took him to her room. Can would never forgive her for this, she thought. She recorded them with her phone, as they entered the elevator to go up. She would wait in the lobby to she what time he came down. She was determined to get all the evidence she could, now that Yigit had abandoned the whole plan and left her on her own. ” He called me crazy, can you believe it, he’s such a jerk, I never could depend on him for anything,” she spewed. ” I’ll show him crazy, when I have Can back and he has nothing…….The hours dragged by, she paced back and forth, not believing Sanem was entertaining his man all night in her room. Huma had been so right about her, she was nothing but trash. The morning was creeping in, she was so tired, but she was running on pure adrenaline, Sanem’s game was about to come to an end. She had the proof she needed. She would go right up to her door, when Sanem opened, there would be no turning back.

Luca was stretched out on the sofa and Sanem had taken her bed, still in her clothes from the night before. The knock on the door, startled Sanem out of her semi-state of sleep. She rushed to open the door, with Polen on the other side, Sanem cringed at the sight of her. She tried to shut the door but Polen was to quick for her, and busted in the door. ” Well, Well, Well. What do we have here.” She smirked. ” Sanem, my dear, you really made this too easy. ” Luca had woke and was sitting on the sofa. He was confused as to who this woman was, and why she kept taking picture with her phone. Sanem yelled, ” Polen get out, before I call the security guard. ” How did you find me anyway.” Polen laughed, it was the same laugh that Sanem always heard in her dreams. ” You  have to be smarter than the average, naive girl for the district.” Thats how.”  She screamed. You don’t deserve Can, you never did and you never will.”  You are no more than tras,,,,POLENCIA!! That’s enough”  She jerked around to face her father, standing next to Can. Her face turned ashen, and she stuttered, smiling, ” Daddy, my dear, what are you doing here?” This is totally a surprise.” Have you come to celebrate the reconciliation of Can and myself?”  She started to cry, pointing her finger at Sanem, ” Daddy, this awful girl stole my Can away, and now she cheating on him.” How can anyone do that. ”  Everyone stood in shock as she broke down, crumbling into her fathers arms. He wrapped his daughter in his arms, with his heart breaking for her. He apologized to Sanem and Can. The troubles that plagued her had left her unable to cope with her everyday life. The medical attention she needed had been ordered by the foundation she worked for and they were under the impression she had gone to the hospital for treatment. Her father had been looking for her for weeks, now he would check her into the hospital, where she would stay. Her father thanked Can for calling him and telling him what Polen was up to, it probably saved her life. He led his daughter out the door. She turned to Can, trembling, she cried, ” You know I’ll always be waiting for you, don’t you.” She doesn’t deserve you”…..Her father ushered her down the hall and on the elevator.

Can scooped Sanem up in his arms, hugging her so tight she couldn’t breathe. This nightmare was over, he felt an immense sense of relief. Just to touch her, he was able to breathe. This had been a torturous ordeal, not just for him and Sanem, but for Polen as well. Sanem’s sorrow for what Polen was going through was evident. For someone to be so sick, she prayed she would recover.

Can hugged Luca, thanking him for keeping his Sanem safe, when he couldn’t.

This day would be forever etched in their minds. They were happy, their lives would be as one, without anymore obstacles in their way, but Can was sad, to have witnessed the destruction of someone he had known so well. What had caused all of this unbalance in her…..

” Sanem was safe,” he thought,” That was the most important thing.”  If anything had happened to her,  he wouldn’t  have been able to bear it.

” Now, lets get the rest of this book tour over and get back to Istanbul.”…..He said, smiling.

” We have a very special wedding to attend”……….
